‘home, James…and don’t
spare the horses”A favorite expression of Queen Victoria. In the
latter half of the 19th century, Queen Victoria had a carriage driver
named James Darling. Traditionally, the Victorian ‘upper class’
called their staff only by their surname. In as much, Queen Victoria calling
Mr. Darling – ‘Darling’ - seemed slightly inappropriate.
So ‘James’ it was to be…Just imagine her Majesty departing
the Royal train at Paddington Station, anxious to get back to Buckingham
Palace commanding…’home, james! And don’t spare the
horses!’… And that’s how an expression galloped into
history.

HISTORY
home, james! was founded in 1987 in East
Hampton, NY, a beautiful seaside resort on the eastern fork of Long Island.
Literally from the beginning, when a New York Times editorial story announced
us to the world, home, james! has been an icon for good taste and style.
We are known for stocking the ‘best of the best’ – fine
china, silver, antiques, beautiful linens, unique gifts and all the things
one needs to entertain with style. We are known for setting trends…on
the cutting edge…home, james! has always been known as an exciting
place to shop. Plan to visit us the next time you are in East Hampton…maybe
you will see someone famous…Paul McCartney, Billy Joel, Stephen
Spielberg, Jerry Seinfeld, Matt Lauer, Donna Karan, Alec Baldwin, Calvin
Klein, etc, etc…they all have homes here!

our Web site and shop. We travel the world for unique items and we also
design china, crystal, linens, pottery and more to create exclusive gifts

MANAGEMENT
David Cipperman President, & Chief
Executive Officer
David brings a breadth of experience to The
home, james Collection. A partner since 1988, David has a keen sense of
design and colour, as well as, a personality that attracts everyone who
meets him. He is also the driving force behind the day-to-day operation
of our retail shop.
David is an accomplished architect. For more that 12 years he was an associate
partner at the world famous firm of Skidmore, Owings & Merrill where
he designed corporate offices for barons of industry, headquarters offices
in Mexico City, and the New York office for the American Academy in Rome.
He was also named a contender for the Academy’s prestigious Rome
Prize. Today, besides the important design work he painstakingly produces
for The Collection, he is known to be ‘persuaded’ by a few
important clients to design their homes or even a million dollar pool
house!
Josef Schreick, Senior Vice President &
Chief Operating Officer
Josef (not Joe!) brings a breadth of experience
to The home, james! Collection. He is the driving force behind our merchandising
and marketing strategies. Josef and an old friend Jack founded the company
in 1987, unfortunately, Jack passed away in 1991.
Josef brings to The home, james! Collection over 30 years of experience
in merchandising, retail operations, and brand development. He has been
the driving force behind new product development at such prestigious firms
as Estee Lauder, Cover Girl, and Coty, where he developed brands that
are household names today. His specific knowledge of finance, operations,
and general management are skills used daily by The home, james! Collection.
Frederick, Corporate Mascot & Best
Friend
Frederick, truly thinks he is THE center of
The home, james! Collection. But in fact, he is a longhaired, black &
tan dachshund who loves to help at the computer, sit on your lap or just
be our grounded support. He is a friend to the UPS driver, loves our computer
technician & is best friends with Spanky, Rocky & Sunny…oh,
in our next life we all want to come back as Frederick…!
